An article in "The Virginia Historical Society" Magazine (Vol. 37, p. 322) states Jeffrey died in the home of his daughter, Rhoda Robertson Gannaway. The William & Mary Quarterly (Vol. 22, Series 2, p. 62) states Jeffrey Robertson held the rank of Captain in the U.S. Army but the Jeffrey referred to was most likely the son of Tirey Robertson Sr. (See entry # 3-008). Sarah's father was vestryman for the Bruton Parish Church, Williamsburg, VA. Although 16 years of age Norvell served in a Cumberland Co. Virginia military unit under command of Capt. William Merideth when the English Army, under Command of Gen. Cornwallis, surrendered at Yorktown during the Revolutionary war. Rev. Robertson moved to Georgia after the war and then west to Mississippi where he settled and raised a family. Usually members of the congregation paid their preacher by donations but donations were so small that Rev. Norvell worked as blacksmith, teacher, and farmer. The minutes of his church, Providence Baptist, date back to 1818 and list Rev. Robertson as one of 8 charter members of the church.
