ROBERTSON-L mailing list info in text format. Please read this. Click on "back" to get back here. [Note: this and email archive retrieval how-to are in text format to allow providing identical information to those without web access].
ROBERTSON ARCHIVES. Many of the links found here are to the USGenWeb archives (wills, deeds, censuses, etc.) and the remainder are the same type items found elsewhere. These are files where it has been verified that ROBERTSON archival information can be found. These may show other ROB-names, but should always show somehow how they connect to ROBERTSON. Search the county/state USGenWeb archives where your people are known to have been and email me the sites you find. If you have similar uncopyrighted documents you can submit, email me if you need my assistance.
ROBERTSON FAMILIES of the WORLD, supporting ROBERTSON research anywhere, anytime. On the "On-line" page will be found links of a general nature relating to ROBERTSON research such as descendent listings, articles, gedcoms, etc. The scope of this page is essentially the same as that of ROBERTSON-L. It is limited to families who "knew themselves" as ROBERTSON at some point in their history.
JOHN ROBERTSON'S GENEALOGY & MAPS. This is my (John Robertson, ROBERTSON-L list manager) personal home page and is limited to my own line of ROBERTSON and other related lines (~8000 names). In addition, you will find a lot here on making your own genealogical atlas from downloaded maps, and you will find a large section devoted to "where county lines used to be" for most of the US states. There are many such pages linked from RFotW (above), and it is only included here to avoid confusion with the other pages listed above, also maintained by me. If you write to me saying "your webpage", you kinda need to say which one, because I have others not listed here.
POWERFUL WAYS TO SEARCH FOR ROBERTSON, or, even your other surnames, etc.
If you would like to apply these same search procedures on all of the USGenWeb archives (like the pension statements, wills and deeds we have uploaded to county/state archives), you can do so here: SEARCH THE
USGENWEB ARCHIVES BY STATE
If you want to search almost all the genealogical mailing lists there are (including the large regional lists), internet newsgroups, and many online databases, pre-configured as much as possible for ROB-names, go here: ROBname SEARCH PAGE from ROBERTSON FAMILIES of the WORLD webpage.
Email search/retrieval of archived messages, in text format, is the only search available to you if you have email-only service. The only volume available is volume98, however some 1997 messages are found in it. This can be expected to be subject to change. Click on "back" to get back here. These still worked the last time I tried them, and are the only way to retrieve a digest with messages intact. A bit clunky but it gets the job done. E-MAIL RETRIEVAL OF MESSAGES OR DIGESTS
If you can't find a cousin somewhere in the above, you may not have any!
HOW TO GET THE MESSAGES YOU MISSED WHEN OFFLINE
This is a condensed version from the last item above:
Address an email to: robertson-d-request@rootsweb.com
For the subject, use the single word: archive
For the body use the following: ls volume98
quit
When the response is received, in the rightmost four columns, you will see dates and archive numbers. From this, select the archive numbers you would like to have sent to you.
Example: To retrieve archive #95 alone, address an email to: robertson-d-request@rootsweb.com
For the subject, use the single word: archive
For the body use the following: get volume98/95
quit
Example: To retrieve archives #90-#95, address an email to: robertson-d-request@rootsweb.com
For the subject, use the single word: archive
For the body use the following: get volume98/90 volume98/91 volume98/92 volume98/93 volume98/94 volume98/95
quit
To request more than six digests at one time, add other line(s) beginning with get.
Some other good sources of info on mailing
lists
A very informative site by Yvonne Bowers provided for members of the mailing lists she manages (including OLIVER-L). Click on "back" to get back here. Almost everything there applies to ROBERTSON-L (except the part about the listowner having 10 years experience!). If you have any questions, rather than asking Yvonne, you should ask the ROBERTSON-L list manager.
